Salt & Straw's Feast-Inspired Flavor

In celebration of Feast Portland, PDX's ice cream experts are unveiling a new flavor with ingredients from five regions of Oregon.

Reality check: Feast Portland is less than a month away. As the big weekend inches closer, restaurants around Portland will be showcasing specials that highlight the best of our local ingredients to attract the biggest names in the food industry.

Never one to miss out on a cool collaboration, Salt & Straw's head ice cream maker Tyler Malek has teamed up with several Oregon artisans for a special festival-inspired flavor for the Oregon Bounty Grand Tasting. Dubbed Feast's Oregon Bounty, the ice cream pays tribute to five products from around Oregon in a single scoop.

It all starts off with a salted chocolate ice cream using Portland's Woodblock Chocolate and salt from Jacobsen's Sea Salt. Next comes a ribbon of TouVelle buttercream made with cheese from Southern Oregon's Rogue Creamery, combined with a handful of Willamette Valley Hazelnuts from Freddy Guys that have been candied in Pendleton Whiskey from Hood River.

All proceeds from the Feast flavor sold at Salt & Straw's SE Division location this Labor Day weekend will go to Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon, and the flavor will be available in scoop shops starting Tuesday, September 4th. Leading up to Feast, scoops of Feast's Oregon Bounty will be upgraded for free into a sundae for all customers who bring a donation for the Oregon Food Bank to one of Salt & Straw's brick-and-mortar locations.
