Winter weather can't slow down Portland's love affair with ice cream, and Ruby Jewel is capitalizing on those rainy-day cravings for a good cause.

In conjunction with the Oregon Chapter of the Children's Heart Foundation's Heart Month this February, Ruby Jewel Scoops will offer "hearty" servings Raspberry Heart Cookie ice cream to raise money for children living with Congenital Heart Defects (CHD). The special flavor combines creamy marzipan, Oregon raspberries, and house-made shortbread cookie chunks—and it's already a hit with local kids living with CHD and their families.

Throughout the month of February, both Ruby Jewel Scoops locations (3713 N. Mississippi Ave and 428 SW 12th Ave) will host a display of photos taken by Portland photographer Nancy Renwick highlighting and celebrating the lives of several local children living with CHD.

CHD is the most common birth defect in America, occurring in one out of every 100 births, and the Children's Heart Foundation works to support the improved diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of the disease. To find out more head to the Children's Heart Foundation's Oregon Chapter website.
