Country Brunch Gets Down(home)

Portland Monthly's celebration of urban bounty (and Bloody Marys) welcomed summer with local chefs and shakers.

Portland Monthly once again convinced the best of Portland's food and drink scene to wake up early for the third annual Country Brunch and Bloody Mary Smackdown on June 22.

The benefit for Zenger Farms' Urban Grange barn-raising efforts featured brunch fare from Urban Farmer, Lardo, Ataula, Smallwares, Ten Top, and Harlow, and Grey Goose Bloody Marys from Irving Street Kitchen, Le Bistro Montage, Doug Fir Lounge, Radar, Broder, and Imperial.

The weather at Northwest Portland's Castaway was glorious. New Seasons Market decked out tables with local condiments; Whole Foods Market set up a lavish Bloody Mary Garnish Bar and poured tableside Manmosas. Crispin Natural Hard Ciders, Boyd’s Coffee, Sunshine Dairy, and Blackbird Food Company set up shop outside, near the Car2Go ring toss. The Belmont Goats lent some rock-star glamour to the scene.

As for the Bloody Mary Smackdown, our panel of thirsty judges and enthusiastic guests named Doug Fir Lounge’s “Antidote," with secret ingredients brown sugar and Guinness, this year's People’s Choice and Judge’s Choice champion.
