Naomi Pomeroy writes a cookbook, Boxer Ramen to launch a North Portland satellite, and Peter Bro’s All-Way burger joint is now open.

Southeast

Smokehouse 21, the well-regarded barbecue spot on NW 21st Ave is opening a second location/bar dubbed “Smokehouse Tavern,” inside the former Lightbar space at 1401 SE Morrison St. Projected opening: March.

P.R.E.A.M, the Wu-Tang-themed pizza pop-up inside of Ned Ludd, is becoming a fully-fledged pizzeria. Ned Ludd chefs Nick Ford and Brandon Gomez will open in the former Tennessee Red's space at 2131 SE 11th Ave. The Chefstable-partnered project will tentatively open sometime early next year.


Northeast

Nancye Benson, creator of former cult food cart Moxie Rx (most recently pastry chef at The Woodsman Tavern/Market) has opened Milk Glass Market, a 28-seat café serving breakfast and lunch along with a small artisan grocery. Benson is bringing back her much-loved cheddar biscuits, ginger lime macaroons, and excellent muffins. 2150 N. Killingsworth Ave, Tues Sun, 9 am 7 pm

After 20 years in the dive bar-karaoke business, East Burnside’s Chopsticks II will shutter next summer. Chopsticks III on Northeast Columbia Blvd. will remain open.

A second location to Union Way’s popular Boxer Ramen is coming to 2032 NE Alberta Street, right next door to serial franchiser Micah Camden’s Little Big Burger. Projected opening: December.

Tabla’s Adam Berger (also of 24th and Meatballs) is launching Rallenti Pasta Company, a small-scale, artisanal dried pasta manufactory using bronze-dies and top-notch domestic durum wheat flour. Rallenti will be sold wholesale and to retail stores starting in 2015. The dried pasta brand is also partnering with New Seasons Market to create an exclusive line, sold at their 15 grocery stores around town.

James Beard Award-winning Beast chef Naomi Pomeroy is writing a cookbook entitled Oui: Lessons From an Award-Winning Self-Taught Chef. Oui will be published by Ten Speed Press due out in Fall 2016.

Southwest

All-Way Restaurant, a burger joint in the style of In-N-Out, is now open inside the former Red Coach space. Owner Peter Bro (Broder, Savoy Tavern) kept the former tenant's red booths and aesthetic accents, but revamped everything else, including a menu of fried chicken, craft beer, and house-made soda. 615 SW Broadway, 11am 11pm, “most days”

Noted bartender Brandon Wise (Beaker & Flask, Irving Street Kitchen) is leaving his longstanding post at Vitaly Paley's Portland Penny Diner for Denver. He will be replaced by Tony Gurdian, bartender and disc jockey for Paley's DaNet pop-up series. 

Northwest

Northwest Portland’s Bluehour has a new and notable wine director: Stacy Gibson, former sommelier at Manhattan’s famed Momofuku and Ma Pêche.

North

New American, a take-out, family-style restaurant from two Higgins alumni will debut on November 21st. Their seasonal, local ingredient-driven menu will be something akin to “Higgins meets Applebee’s.”2103 N Killingsworth St. Wed-Sun, 5 ­– 9 pm; Fri-Sat, 5 ­­– 10 pm
