La Panza Cafe Debuts Take-Home Tamale Tuesdays

Christmas may have come and gone, but it's lingering just off of SE Division Street—Christmas-style chile, that is. La Panza Café, tucked away next to a Plaid Pantry on SE 26th, offers New Mexican staples like huevos rancheros, blue corn enchiladas, stuffed sopaipillas, and chile rellenos—all smothered in red chile, green chile, or both (get it? Christmas style!) for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The cozy spot, decked in glass and metal lanterns and mini succulents, is the creation of Santa Fe native Andy Razatos, who moved up to Portland with the dream of sharing his beloved regional cuisine with the Pacific Northwest.

The New Mexican soul food hideaway has become a go-to destination for flavorful, affordable brunch, and the passionate chef is raising the bar—after the success of his flavorful Christmas tamales over the holiday season Razatos has decided to make Tamale Tuesday a La Panza staple, offering his blue corn delights every week for $9 per half dozen.

Recent flavors have included extra-spicy green chile with squash, Carne Adovada (packed with Carlton pork marinated in New Mexican red chile), hand-wrapped and steamed every Tuesday and available from 5 to 9. Pro tip: pop by for dinner, scarf down a green chile cheeseburger with homemade fries, and grab some tamales to unwrap like presents in the morning for the best handheld breakfast around.
