Pollo Norte's Irresistible Rotisserie Renaissance

A new Mexico-City style chicken shack is heating up Northeast Portland.

Mexico City-style rotisserie chicken.

We’ve all been there: grabbing a plastic-domed rotisserie chicken from the supermarket deli when the idea of making dinner at the end of a long workday is inconceivable—willfully pushing aside thoughts of where that chicken came from and exactly how long it’s been sitting under those heat lamps in favor of greasy-fingered convenience. Pollo Norte, a new rotisserie chicken haven inspired by neighborhood spots throughout Mexico, now offers a guilt-free alternative. With a tiny menu and an even smaller dining area sporting just a few bar stools, Pollo Norte is accomplishing something mighty—delectable, affordable, and sustainably raised rotisserie chicken, roasted fresh. Each juicy bird is lavished with earthy achiote, sea salt, lime, and chile, and packed up with house-made corn tortillas, veggies, and smoky rojo and bright verde salsas. It’s well worth the detour on your way home. Bonus: leftovers are fantastic. We checked.
