Los Angeles is a hot ticket for Portland food artisans in the middle of a growth spurt. Stumptown pours over in the Arts District, Blue Star slings doughnuts in Venice Beach, and Pok Pok fries noodles in Chinatown. Now, in addition to their first LA outpost in Larchmont Village, Salt & Straw is opening two new locations: one on Venice Beach’s Abbot Kinney Boulevard, set to open fall 2015, with a much larger sister shop to follow in the Arts District in winter 2016.

In the meantime, Salt & Straw is setting up their roving ice cream truck in front of the future Arts District location starting August 14 to give locals a taste of their newly developed Cali-flavors, like a Black Olive Brittle and Goat Cheese ice cream. “I’m still in awe of the incredible wealth of raw ingredients that are available in Southern California,” says Tyler Malek, Salt & Straw co-founder and ice cream mastermind. “It’s truly an abundance of riches.”
