Chopsticks II closes, Hood River Distillery opens a tasting room, and the New York Times loves/hates us.

Thomas & Sons Distillery Opens Tasting Room

The boozy branch of local tea monger, Townshend’s Tea Company, has opened a “teahouse meets speakeasy” tasting room on Distillery Row (4211 SE Milwaukie Avenue). You can still get their unique spirits (all brewed with tea, of course) at their Division street teahouse. Open Thursday and Friday 4pm-7pm, Saturday and Sunday 2pm-7pm. 

When One Chopsticks Closes, Another Chopsticks Opens

This Saturday is your last chance to sing your favorite drunken 80’s ballad at Chopsticks II. Owner David Chow was forced to shutter his Burnside location, but the outcry from fans of the late-night karaoke hot spot inspired Chow to open a new location on NE 33rd and Sandy Blvd, expected to launch September 26. 

Brunch at Swift and Union

The new NoPo spot will now offer brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-2pm. Check out the pork belly benedict served on a biscuit or the duck confit hash.

Hood River Distillery’s Historic New Tasting Room

Hood River Distillers celebrated their 81st birthday by opening a new 1,200-square-foot tasting room in Hood River’s historic 1910 National Bank building (304 Oak Street, Suite 3). Visitors can expect a rotating list of 15-20 varieties from Hood River Distillers and Clear Creek Distillery. Open daily from noon to 6pm.

Revolution Hall’s Café Opens For Regular Hours

Marthas, the café and bar inside scholastic concert venue, Revolution Hall (1300 SE Stark St), isn’t just for thirsty concert-goers anymore. In addition to late-night beverages, you can now get breakfast (like baked goods from nearby Crema and bagels from Spielman’s) from 7am-4pm and sandwiches and pizzas in the evenings.  Open weekdays 7am-late, weekends 9am-late.

NYT Says Visit PDX, Secretly Hates Us?

In case you weren’t anywhere near the internet last week, New York Times travel writer, Freda Moon, managed to piss off the majority of Portlanders when she followed up her “36 Hours in Portland” article with a tweet proclaiming she’s really not that into us, to which Portlanders responded with a tweet-vengeance.  After back-pedaling on her comment (and then forward-pedaling and then back-pedaling…), we were just confused. Then we rode our bikes to the river and drank some craft beer while gazing lovingly at Mt. Hood and got over it.

Late Night Tamales and Latin Cocktails at Xico

The upscale Mexican spot added handmade tamales to their late night happy hour, a healthy serving for just $5. This week only, pair one of the Mayan-style tamales with a Latin-inspired cocktail (from caiparinhas to pisco sours to Cuba libres) as part of their Classic Latin Cocktail Week. 3715 SE Division St. Late night happy hour starts at 9pm.
