Inside Timberline’s Two New Eateries: Wy’East Café and Phlox Point Cabin
It’s been a particularly good season for snowfall on Mount Hood (nearly 30 feet since September!). And with the opening of two new restaurants at Timberline Lodge and Ski Area, skiers have even more reason to spend the day in fresh powder.
The newly remodeled Wy’East Day Lodge boasts the brand-new Wy’East Café, an octagonal serving area designed to expedite food service and get skiers back on the mountain with little wait time. Guests can order from a variety of stations, many featuring local ingredients such as the Olympia Provisions Frankfurter and grass-fed beef butchered on-site. Some menu items, like the burritos and burgers, cater to those looking for classic, hearty ski fare while others, such as the curried tempeh brown rice bowl, are geared towards the more health-conscious. While beer isn't available at the Café, there's a variety of Mount Hood Brewing taps at the adjacent Y’Bar.
For those looking to refuel at higher altitude, there's the renovated historic Phlox Point Cabin, located mid-mountain and accessible only by ski or board. With a large fireplace inside, a variety of canned beer options, and four different tacos to choose from, it’s a simple option for those looking for a more scenic break from the snow. And affordable—tacos are $3 apiece. Just outside, several Adirondack chairs surround a custom-built fire barrel, making for a particularly playful space for on-trail ale.
