1. Wrap your mouth around the Cubano at the People’s Pig
Can you say oink? The People’s Pig, best known for its smoked fried chicken and porchetta, makes a hell of a Cubano: two massive halves jammed with hunks of smoked pork shoulder and thick slices of ham, balanced out with the spicy Dijon and tangy pickles.
2. Tuck into a falafel salad at Chickpeadx
The Zipper’s star tenant makes a pita-less version of their falafel sandwich with fried eggplant, tomato, cucumber, and of course, fresh-ground Washington chickpeas fried in a thick, craggy shell. It comes dressed in their addictive basil-mint tahini (BMT), but lemony whipped labneh yogurt is an essential bedfellow.
3. Keep hyped and hydrated with a classic Black Tiger Milkshake at Jim & Patty’s Coffee
A cement-thick blast of Black Tiger espresso and vanilla ice cream potholed with shards of Black Tiger espresso beans. There is no finer stimulant/coolant combo in all of the city.

4. Cool off with Kure’s best “macro-bowl”
Kure might be known for its acai-boosted smoothies, but at its West End location, the trio of “macro-bowls” deserves its day. The best is the "Vietnum," a plate of soy-soaked tempeh nuggets, spicy-creamy Sriracha-cashew-mayo, a nutty sprinkling of gomasio, and the sweet crunch of cabbage, cucumber and pickled carrot.
