Good Coffee Enters the Roasting Biz
One of Portland Monthly’s best-looking coffee shop picks is getting into the roasting game. Co-owner Sam Purvis describes Good’s roasting style as between medium and medium-light, and hopes to "roast insanely sessionable coffees." Says Purvis: "Think the session beer of IPAs and the French Gamay of red table wine–approachable, delicious, crushable." Their roasts are available at both Southeast locations, and (soon) for sale online.

Altabira and Citizen Baker’s David Machado (previously of Lauro and Vindalho), is opening a Pearl District tavern with a pioneer-Pacific Northwest aesthetic slated for next summer. No word on the food or menu yet.

Mexican Restaurant Chalino Opens
Earlier this month, former Clyde Common/Stray Dogs chef Johnny and Xico sous Dave Haddow opened their “Mexico-inspired” restaurant at 25 North Fremont St. An early menu shows plenty of vegetables, beet mole to mushrooms with mojo de ajo fried shallots and miso, beef tartare tostadas, crema-fried chicken, and a michelada pumped with beef stock. Chalino is open 5–10 p.m., Monday-Saturday.
