Off the Griddle is located at 6526 SE Foster Road.

As we reported when news broke in February, before Ashley Arthur and Dan Harding opened tiny vegan-friendly brunch spot A.N.D. Café, they were running Off the Griddle, a solar-powered vegetarian food cart in Southeast Portland. This weekend, Off the Griddle makes its triumphant return as a brick-and-mortar restaurant at SE 65th and Foster, serving up the same signature O.T.G. burgers (made from scratch with leeks, mushrooms, and multiple kinds of rice) that delighted hungry herbivores back in 2010.

With bright orange and teal paint and goofy throwback decor—including a hamburger piñata, a hand-shaped chair, and a clock shaped like a giant, colorful wristwatch—the new cafe offers fun, retro vibes to match its casual diner chow. The meatless menu is packed with burgers (five vegan and five vegetarian options), but also boasts salads, sandwiches, snacks, and fancy mac 'n' cheese bowls. Flip the menu over to find a wealth of cocktails and boozy floats; the Cinnamon Toast, for example, features cinnamon whiskey, root beer, and coconut vanilla ice cream.

To celebrate its grand opening, Off the Griddle hosts an Earth Day celebration featuring drink specials, giveaways, vegan Jell-O shots, and all-day happy hour pricing. Drop by between 3–11 pm on Saturday, April 22, for buffalo cheese fries, jackfruit tuna melts, "pizza party" mac, and more plant-based goodness. (You know, to save the earth, or something.)
