Heart Coffee sues Heart Pizza 

Heart Coffee Roasters, with locations in Southeast and Southwest Portland, is taking Micah Camden’s Heart Pizza to court over the business’s name. Heart accuses Camden, the pizzeria’s owner and restaurateur of Portland’s successful Blue Star Donuts and Little Big Burger, of stealing his trademark name and imagery, according to the Oregonian. Camden insists he has the freedom to use the concept, where the name of Heart Pizza reflects its commitment to charitable giving: $1 to charity for each purchased pie. 

Biwa does bento box lunch 

The beloved neighborhood izakaya tries its hand at bento, the compartmentalized Japanese lunch tradition. On first glance, that looks like sashimi, onigiri, karaage, and various pickled and miso-ed vegetables. You can pick up your very own $12 box from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., get it delivered by Postmates, or eat it at the restaurant. Vegetarian and gluten-free vegan options are also available to-go, as is the full lunch menu of curry rice, ramen, and udon. 

Tanner Creek Tavern opens on NW Everett 

A new globetrotting menu has landed in the heart of the Pearl (875 NW Everett St), courtesy of David Machado, the restaurateur behind Nel Centro and Altabira. Trevor Payne (Taylor Railworks, Little Bird, and more) will work the kitchen, cooking dishes from harissa-stewed clams to roast chicken tikka masala curry with Carolina Gold rice. Tanner Creek is big (5000 square feet), with 142 seats and the usual Doug fir beams and glass garage door setup.

South Waterfront gets a new rotisserie chicken spot

Eric Stromquist, co-founder of the Oregon Culinary Institute, is opening yet another rotisserie chicken spot in the old Muselet space (3730 SW Bond Ave) in Southwest Waterfront, according to Willamette Week. Stromquist, who also helped found Hot Lips Pizza, is joined by Beau Culpepper, another OCI instructor and chef-about-town. Here’s hoping the veteran duo will pull off a rotisserie to stand out above the sea of slowly rotating birds in this town.

The Commons Brewery is closing, with California’s Modern Times Beer to move in

WW is hot on the case of the brewery’s unfortunate closure. Despite the success of its popular farmhouse ale and other yeasty brews, owner Mike Wright has said the beloved brewery will close at the end of the year after failing to break even on revenue. Wright will lease the brewing space to Modern Times Beer of San Diego, which plans to open as the "Belmont Fermentorium." You’ve got three more months to sample suds from Commons before Modern Times takes over in January 2018.
