ometimes, the morning coffee alone just won’t do. During weekend only brunch at Hey Love (920 E Burnside St), every drink brings something different to the tropical party. A spiked mimosa called Drink Your Juice, Shelby! layers passionfruit and grapefruit juice with a serious punch of gin, pear brandy, and Lillet Blanc. A twist on Spanish coffee, the Afternoon Delight swaps the burnt sugar rim for a cinnamon-sugar rim, amped up by Cinnamon Toast Crunch–infused rum and bits of cereal scattered atop a cool float of heavy cream.

Meanwhile, newcomer Flattop & Salamander (1401 SE Morrison St #117) offers boozy brunch seven days a week alongside dishes like house-made corned beef hash. We go for the flaming Spanish coffee, made with Heart beans, bold 151 rum, triple sec, and a beautifully caramelized rim, or the Unencumbered, a refreshing, tequila-based concoction with green chartreuse, cucumber, and cava.

Pickled veggies top the Danish Mary at Broder.

While Broder’s many locations get lots of love for the creamy Lost Eggs and spherical pancakes, the drinks are just as much of a draw. Aquavit is the liquor of choice, making its way into the Swedish kaffe, with Water Avenue coffee and Kahlúa, topped with a cloud of whipped cream. Or choose between dill aquavit or vodka in the Danish Mary—we obviously go for the former—a visibly dill-loaded, refreshing, and tomatoey house Bloody Mary mix garnished with a rainbow of house-pickled veggies.
