This announcement thrills us here at Portland Monthly: Brooke Jackson-Glidden will join our publication as its new editor in chief.

Local readers—especially ones who follow food news—likely know Jackson-Glidden’s name well. She has been the editor of Eater Portland since 2018. Jackson-Glidden undoubtedly knows how to break food news, but her thoughtful coverage of topics ranging from ghost kitchens to bars stocking Narcan kits spotlights the many ways lifestyle and food coverage can engage with the city’s heftiest issues. In 2023, Jackson-Glidden won a James Beard Award—the coveted Jonathan Gold Local Voice Award, no less—for her writing.

She will bring this same sensibility to Portland Monthly, where Jackson-Glidden will set the tone and vision for coverage that spans everything from news to travel, the arts and, yes, food.

“As I look back on Portland Monthly’s storied history, I see the indelible stamp each successful editor in chief has had on both the community and the publication,” says Nicole Vogel, CEO and cofounder of Portland Monthly, and its parent company SagaCity Media. “I’m terribly excited to watch Brooke make her mark as I’m certain it’s going to be inspiring and impactful.”

Before Eater, Jackson-Glidden worked at the Statesman Journal in Salem. Her beat, the business of food, touched on agriculture, legislation, and the wine industry. While her journalism career began in Boston, she grew up in Eugene; her knowledge of Portland runs deep.

“I am incredibly proud to have covered Portland as long as I have, through a food lens or otherwise,” Jackson-Glidden says. “At Portland Monthly, I’m looking forward to exploring the city as it exists today, highlighting under-told stories and sharing the things that make it so special.”

I know Jackson-Glidden to be a clear-eyed champion of this city, and an ideal steward for Portland Monthly as it enters its 21st year. As we met and talked during this process, she kept raising story ideas that left me thinking, I can’t wait to read that.

Jackson-Glidden will begin her new role in June. Portland, your stories are in careful and capable hands.
