The health-conscious food truck puts down roots in the former Alameda Cafe space.

Zucchini frites, peach-marsala soda, and the NW Harvest: roasted delicata, caramelized apples, onions, braised greens and toasted pumpkin seeds with added tempeh.

Great news, Thrive fans: you no longer need to chase down that elusive truck to get your fix. Since 2012, the health food company has been on the move, selling seasonal rice bowls out of the roving Thrive Pacific NW food truck and stocking grocery store shelves with their signature sauces. On September 26, Thrive’s brick-and-mortar incarnation opened its doors on NE Fremont, offering an expanded menu, cocktails on tap, and unlimited sides of Extra Special Sauce.

Set in the sunny corner space previously owned by Alameda Café, the restaurant oozes rustic charm. Mismatched dishtowel napkins sit on worn, white wooden tables, and canned veggies and rusty spatulas adorn the walls. The menu is a conscientious eater’s paradise: all dishes are devoid of gluten, refined sugar, antibiotics, and GMOs. The produce-driven plates are sourced from nearby farms like Gathering Together and DeNoble, and anything can be made vegetarian, if not fully vegan.

Composed of brown rice, seasonal vegetables, and your choice of sauce and protein, Thrive’s classic bowls are available “solo” or “family-style,” which serves four. New offerings include small bites—think chickpea parmesan flatbreads and African spiced beets—and entrée-sized salads piled with seasonal goodies. Adults can sip wine and “taptails” like the Pearfect Spice (whiskey, cardamom and pear), while kiddos enjoy fancy housemade soda flavors like blackberry-anise and citrus-lemongrass.

Thrive may not be bucking any trends by focusing on healthy, farm-fresh eats, but that doesn’t make the results any less delicious. Visit Thrive Sauce and Bowls on October 1 for the eatery’s grand opening celebration.
