Your Gut's Favorite Portland Food Festival Is Back

Can you hear that? It's the sound of your gut flora, rejoicing at the news that the Portland Fermentation Festival has returned. Now in its sixth year, the all-ages probiotic party will host more than 600 attendees at EcoTrust on Tuesday, October 27.
Not sure if you like fermented foods? This is the perfect place to find out! The 7 pm and 8 pm tasting sessions promise samples of every conceivable ferment, from sour pickles and sauerkraut to cheeses, miso, tempeh, and sourdough bread. And don't forget the drinks—beverages will include kombucha, kefir, and mead.
If you're still hungry after your fermented feast, head to the EcoTrust roof for beer, Bingo Sandwiches, and Reverend Nat's Hard Cider. DJ Jimbo will be spinning his funkiest tunes for the inevitable rooftop dance party.

Aspiring home fermenters will definitely want to arrive early for this year's expert panel. Nat West of Reverend Nat's Hard Cider, David Barber of Picklopolis, Tressa Yellig of Salt, Fire & Time, and Tara Whitsitt of Fermentation on Wheels will be on hand to answer all your most pressing pickling questions from 6–7 pm. (Is your SCOBY supposed to float sideways and waft its stringy white tentacles, or did someone put a jellyfish in your kombucha? Find out!) Live demonstrations will also take place throughout the evening.
Tickets are available here; $10 gets you into the 7 pm or 8 pm tasting sessions, while $20 earns you admission to the 6 pm expert panel and 7 pm tasting session. Can't get enough gut-friendly goodness? Try our favorite local probiotic products and kombucha crushes.
