Since joining Portland Monthly’s editorial team in 2010, Marty has covered a little of everything, including politics, beer, pop culture, tech, design, sports, video games, and history. Among his many other duties things, he writes the monthly backpage column, The Shakedown.

Born and raised in Germany as a Burmese-American—confusing, we know!—Marty arrived in Portland in 2005 after a stop in Los Angeles. He completed an MA in History at Portland State, where he got way into Derrida. When he’s not writing or editing, you can find him producing weird electronic music, cooking, or standing in the Timbers Army.
