A look from Richie's upcoming Macy's collection.

Ten years ago, Nicole Richie was best known as Paris Hilton’s sidekick. Boy, those days are long gone. Now the successful designer and Fashion Star judge is known more for her boho style than reality television shenanigans. Further cementing her role as a legit American designer, Richie launches a special collection for Macy’s contemporary fashion Impulse department on September 12.

The line is heavily inspired by Richie’s trendsetting personal style, including 70s era silhouettes, prints and fabrications. Retro prints take center stage in the form of bold peacock kaleidoscope, feather and deco chevron, while matte satin, velvet and chiffon fabrications add sophistication. Jewel tones anchor the color palette, while complementary gold and imperial blue hues create pops of color throughout. “Macy's is the epitome of American fashion,” said Nicole Richie. “Their iconic stamp on the world of retail has not only touched the lives of consumers, but has also become a significant part of pop-culture. I am thrilled to have this opportunity to work with Macy's and create a collection that channels the individual artist in all of us.

After the first peaks of the line, (see our slide show) it looks pretty cute. And at everything between $50 and $150, it’s definitely good for the budget conscious.
