Quin Candy—former Saint Cupcake owner Jami Curl's Oregon-proud sweets company that dreams up fresh fruit and chocolate variations on nostalgic candy like Starburst, Tootsie Rolls, and Lik-m-aid—is expanding to 2805 SE Ankeny St in early October. The new space expands the Quin's offerings beyond the shoe-box-sized, 170-square foot flagship shop inside Downtown’s Union Way alleyway, which opened in 2013.
In addition to her new winter line of candy, which includes sour apple and cherry lollipops, sea salt and pumpkin seed caramel, and tea + lemonade gumdrops, Curl says the new 900-square-foot space space, with its stark black and white design, will offer “giftier” things like cards, stationary, and tote bags. Most importantly, all of Quin’s candy will be available in bulk. Trick-or-Treaters take note: this is the jackpot.
Also in the works: hands-on classes, not for candy-making, but for candy-centric crafting projects like piñata-making or Advent calendars. The inspiration for Quin’s workshops comes from her upcoming cookbook, Candy is Magic, coming in Spring 2017 from 10 Speed Press. Curl says the book will hold 200 recipes, including candy and baked goods, starting with the basic pillars of candy-making and advancing to more complex creations as the book progresses. Sounds like required reading for 2017.
