The new brick-and-mortar Addy's Sandwich Bar is now (softly) open on SW 10th.


Mobile caffeine  The Central Eastside's Water Avenue Coffee will debut its mobile coffee truck (a refurbished 1973 Chevy Step van) at the St. Johns parade on Saturday, May 11. After this weekend, the  coffee van is planning regular stops at area events throughout the year. 


Tacos tonight: Megan Sanchez and Alec Morrison (previously of delivery outfit Taco the Town) have launched food cart Guero Tacos (pronounced weh-doh) in the growing cart pod on SE 28th and Ankeny. Menu highlights include Carlton Farms carnitas in addition to vegetarian/vegan tacos on hand-pressed tortillas Tuesday through Sunday, from 11 am to 9 pm. Neighboring carts Grilled Cheese Grill and Wolf & Bear will join forces with Guero to launch a pod-wide delivery service soon. SE 28th and Ankeny

Gluten freedom on Hawthorne: Eater PDX has the first word on PDX vegan cafe/juice bar Prasad's upcoming sister restaurant on SE Hawthorne. Dubbed Harlow, the new gluten free eatery from Prasad owner Karen Pride will launch in June in the former BridgePort Ale House space. 3632 SE Hawthorne

Pack a picnic: John Dovydenas' popular from-scratch food cart Picnic has reopened at a new Southwest location. The newly revised, locally-sourced menu is set to include old favorites like Reubens and chocolate walnut cookies in addition to new items (think roasted buttermilk chicken sandwiches with spring herb pesto and lunch salads with arugula, radishes, and eggs topped with a cart-made ranch dressing). Satisfy a sandwich craving: Favorite downtown food cart Addy's Sandwich Bar has opened a brick-and-mortar location on SW 10th, just four blocks south of the cart's previous location. The shop is open from 8 am to 4 pm, Monday through Saturday, and offers sandwiches, panini, breakfast dishes, juices, and smoothies (plus beer and wine). 911 SW 10th

We can pickle that: The Oregonian reports Hillsdale's Three Square Grill will permanently close after Mother's Day to allow owner David Barber to focus on his wholesale pickle company Picklopolis (with plans to launch a pickle shop in Portland this year). Late night munchies: Scott Dolich's newly-revamped eatery the Bent Brick is now offering a late night happy hour every night from 9 to 10 pm (an extended offering of its daily 4 to 6:30 pm bar menu). 1639 NW Marshall


Precious medals: Portland had a strong showing at the 2013 James Beard Foundation Awards ceremony in New York City on Monday. Le Pigeon's Gabriel Rucker nabbed top honors as Best Chef Northwest (read our post-win interview with him here) and cookbook authors Ken Forkish (of Ken's Artisan Bakery and Pizza) and Diane Morgan won Beard awards for their 2012 cookbooks Flour Water Salt Yeast and Roots, respectively. After his win, Forkish confided: "That was the thrill of a lifetime. Up against books by Thomas Keller and Tom Douglas, I thought I had no chance." He also shared that he slept with his James Beard Award medallion on Friday night. Can you blame him?
