Win a Copy of Gluten-Free Dessert Cookbook 'Sweet Cravings'

Kyra Bussanich, the two-time Cupcake Wars chamption and owner of Lake Oswego's Kyra's Bake Shop, has a new book of gluten-free treats...and we're giving away a copy!

By Allison Jones July 18, 2013

As the first gluten-free baker to win The Food Network's Cupcake Wars, Kyra Bussanich has a track record for making alt-baking treats that stand up to the test of discerning non-GF tastebuds.

At Kyra's Bake Shop (formerly known as Crave Bake Shop) in Lake Oswego, Bussanich's cupcakes, cookies, muffins, cakes, and cobblers have garnered a loyal following since 2011.

Now, in her new book Sweet Cravings: 50 Seductive Desserts for a Gluten-Free Lifestyle ($18.99, on sale September 10 from Ten Speed Press), Bussanich shares her tricks with home cooks looking to fool their families and friends with desserts that could pass for their flour-ful counterparts.

The small-but-mighty cookbook showcases the former assistant pastry chef of Clarklewis's top sellers and new favorites like:

  • Kyra's award-winning Boston cream pie, eggnog, and orange-vanilla Dreamsicle cupcakes
  • Persian "Love Cakes" with cardamom buttercream frosting
  • Cornbread with spicy honey butter
  • Mascarpone cheesecake with strawberry coulis
  • Chocolate chocolate-chip muffins
  • Cherry white-chocolate scones
  • Hazelnut pear tart with goat cheese whipped cream
  • and many, many more

The book also serves as a guide to gluten-free ingredients and substitutions to encourage bakers to experiment with their own treats, and explores the "scoop on gluten"—Bussanich made the GF switch after being diagnosed with an auto-immune disorder and is passionate about helping others on their tasty path to health.

Want to get your hands on an early copy? Eat Beat is giving away a copy of Sweet Cravings to one reader with a sweet tooth—and you don't have to be gluten free to enter! To put your name in the running, click here. The contest is now closed!
