The new Alberta Street Pub is no longer under the culinary direction of chef Kevin Sandri.


• Nate Tilden's new Southeast Division bar The Richmond is now open in the former Matchbox Lounge space across the street from Pok Pok. As previously reported, the restaurateur (Olympic ProvisionsClyde Common) will showcase beer and cocktails poured by Clyde Common transplant Nick Gusikoff and pub food with an “old-school English” twist (think braised brisket hand pies, prime rib roast beef sandwiches, and plenty of chutney. 3203 SE Division St

• Portland’s wine scene is in the national spotlight once again. Food & Wine’s November issue includes a profile of a Beaujolais Nouveau party hosted by the SE Wine Collective and St. Jack. The article celebrates Portland’s growing community of urban winemakers (hmm, where have we heard that before?) plus a few recipes from St. Jack's Aaron Barnett, including his delectable chicken liver mousse. 

• Duane Sorenson’s Roman Candle Baking Co. has launched its long-awaited pizza bianca as part of its new dinner lineup. The restaurant is now open nightly from 5 to 10 pm, with a menu featuring Ava Gene’s salads and seven styles of flatbread pizzas  for $4-7 a slice. 3377 SE Division St

• Fado Portuguese Kitchen and Bar will open for dinner service on Wednesday, October 9, offering traditional Portuguese small plates and entrees including pasteis de bacalhau (salt cod and potato fritters), a cheese board featuring three rotating Portuguese cheeses, seared scallops with crispy presunto (Portuguese proscuitto) and celery root mash and Bife a Portuguesa—a grilled Painted Hills flatiron steak topped with presunto and a sunny side up egg. 4612 SE Hawthorne


• Tex-Mex lovers rejoice! Portland’s Texas barbecue missionary, Rodney Muirhead, has finally debuted his new bar, La Taq, next door to Podnah’s Pit—and we’ve got the photos and first bites right this way... 1625 NE Killingsworth

• After just four months at the helm of Alberta Street Pub’s renovated kitchen, Kevin Sandri is throwing in the apron. Sandri took a two-year hiatus from his beloved Garden State food cart before rejoining the Portland restaurant scene earlier this summer, frying up exceptional pub food with lowbrow bites fueled by farm-fresh seasonality and East Coast sandwich-craftSandri left Alberta Street on October 6. No word yet on a replacement for the pub or Sandri’s next move. Stay tuned. 

• Bunk Bar NE is now open for business. The fourth member of the Bunk family opens in the former Trigger location only days after the latter’s abrupt shuttering, toting a familiar roster of big-flavored grub. 128 NE Russell St


• Green Zebra Grocery’s Kenton location celebrated its grand opening on October 8. Green Zebra, the brainchild of former New Seasons CEO Lisa Sedlar, aims to revolutionize the American convenience store by providing an array of healthy local products. Meanwhile, Southeasters are still awaiting the opening of the Division and Woodstock locations, slated for early 2014. 3011 N Lombard

• Por Que No's North Mississippi location closed on Monday, October 7 for a two-month renovation and expansion. The closure is expected to last 6-8 weeks, and will result in a second kitchen, more seating, The taqueria's Southeast Hawthorne location (4635 SE Hawthorne Blvd) will remain open. 


• The long-awaited Multnomah Whiskey Library from owner Alan Davis (Produce Row) and bar manager Tommy Klus (Bluehour, Teardrop, Kask) is finally open. The intimate clubhouse offers over 1,500 bottles of top-shelf booze, tableside service, and 2220 square feet of library-meets-British gentleman’s club decor surrounding guests sipping their way through the whiskeys of the world—carefully organized by region, ingredient, and production practices, of course. The cozy space is open Tuesday through Saturday, 4 pm to midnight. 1124 SW Alder St.
