Mehri’s Bakery and Deli delivers with its vegetarian apple mincemeat pie. Also on the holiday roster: rum chocolate pecan pie, blue gooseberry pie, and the imitable Bumbleberry—a hot mess of rhubarb, strawberry, apple, marionberry, blueberry, and cherry under one buttery and flaky roof. If you want to think outside the pie box, try the fresh cranberry walnut tart or the pumpkin roulade. Order by November 21. Call 503-788-9600. 6923 SE 52nd Ave.

Pie t7kzzj

Brown butter apple pie at Bakeshop.

Bakeshop, the whole-grain temple of James Beard award-winning baker Kim Boyce, turns out five carefully considered pies for Thanksgiving, including an old-fashioned pecan pie made with Steen’s cane syrup (no corn syrup!) and an apple streusel topped with buckwheat crumble. New this year: a jammy rye open-faced tart smeared with frangipane, local cranberries, and prune plums. Call 503-946-8884 or email [email protected]

Sage Hen goes the history geek route with a tantalizing array of holiday pies culled from early American recipes. Opt for the Shoofly—a gooey medley of molasses and butter crumb—or try the Apple Pandowdy, a pie deliberately baked in a broken crust so the apples can morph into the dough. Also on the throwback docket: Buttermilk Chess pie, cranberry pie, and a boozy vegetarian version of mincemeat pie. Order here. (Plus, 100 percent of pie sale profits will be donated to Planned Parenthood.)

Pumpkin custard, check. Apple, check. Bourbon pecan, check. Grand Central Bakery has conquered Thanksgiving once again. If you’d rather bake at home, consider Grand Central’s U-bake frozen pies or just get the pie crust and let your imagination run wild. Order at least 48 hours in advance and don’t forget the old-fashioned buttermilk dinner rolls.

One of Portland’s pie stalwarts, Random Order cranks out an archetypal pumpkin pie and a Tahitian vanilla, salted caramel apple pie—a favorite of Travel + Leisure magazine. (They also make a vegan apple pie.) Order by November 21 and schedule your pickup between Tuesday morning and Thursday evening. Call 971-340-6995. 1800 NE Alberta St.

Sweetpea Bakery has the vegan pie department covered. Pick and choose from pumpkin, apple, and chocolate silk for a dessert that will blow Tofurky out of the water. Order 48 hours in advance for pickup between November 22–24. Call 503-477-5916. 1205 SE Stark St.

Always vegan and gluten-free, on offer from Petunia’s Pies and Pastries are double crust apple, pear cranberry streusel, and old-fashioned pumpkin. Don’t miss the insanely decadent pumpkin-carrot-zucchini-cheesecake with maple buttercream. Yes, it’s okay to eat cake on Thanksgiving. We won’t tell. Order by November 19 at 9 a.m. for pickup on November 22 or 23. Call 503-841-5961. 610 SW 12th Ave.
