Find Your Farming Soulmate at the CSA Share Fair

So you’ve decided to join a CSA. Now what? The process of picking between dozens of community supported agriculture programs is enough to make any Portlander’s head spin. Each farm offers different prices, portions, pick-up locations, and, most importantly, products—an average haul may include fresh produce, meat, eggs, honey, salmon, flowers, medicinal herbs, and more.
Stress no more! Ecotrust has paired up with the Portland Area CSA Coalition to throw the first-ever CSA Share Fair. On March 21, Ecotrust’s new Redd building will brim with more than thirty farmers and growers eager to explain their shares. Sound like sensory overload? Never fear: expert matchmakers will expedite your search for the perfect CSA program, based on select personal criteria.
Once you’ve set up a (delivery) date with your new agricultural soulmate, there’s plenty more farm-fresh fun to be had. A trio of chefs from Nostrana and Oven & Shaker will help attendees transform a box of spring bounty into a day’s worth of simple, scrumptious meals. A cookbook swap will let you spice up your home cooking by trading dusty cookbooks for brand-new-to-you tomes. CSA expert Katherine Deumling will host cooking demos and grueling rounds of Stump the Chef, and if the samples of spring greens don’t fill you up, the snacks by Tastebud Farm, Seastar Bakery, Tabor Bread, and Nossa Familia coffee surely will.
This family-friendly fair offers plenty for the littlest locavores, too. Kids can tour the Zenger Farms’ traveling chicken co-oop, complete a mission-based scavenger hunt, and draw vegetables at the Free Spirit art station. Head to the Redd at 831 SE Salmon St on March 21 (the spring equinox!) from 10 am–2 pm to join this free community celebration of Oregon’s incredible—and delicious—natural bounty.
