Do This Now! A Guide to Portland's Holiday Pop-up Shops

What's popping up in town this month

By Laura Lundberg October 16, 2012

As holiday shopping season dawns, forgo the old standbys for seasonal pop-ups, those quicksilver entrepreneurial conceits that blow into town around November and often disappear when the calendar flips. Here are three promising pop-ups, scheduled to appear after Thanksgiving.

Featuring lotions, perfumes, and a men’s barber line, Wolf’s Apothecary (920 SW Morrison St) will sell only local products with 100 percent natural ingredients. Owner Jewelie Randall (also the owner of downtown gift shop Flora) says she wants to bring health and beauty products back to their purest and most organic state.

Wolf’s will share its space with Enchanted Alpaca, which offers clothing made with woolly alpaca and bamboo silk to keep you warm. An extension of a four-year old boutique in Hood River, it provides a place for a dozen artists to sell their own alpaca-inspired wares. The store will host a fashion show and a petting zoo ... with baby alpacas!

Finally, at the sports apparel pop-up Emit (SW Sixth Avenue and Alder Street), owners Ben Hermel and Monica Cullen will weave athletic design and performance fabrics into everyday fashion, creating bold, modern patterns to help give even the most pie-filled figures striking silhouettes.
