In the way of Portland's eatery equilibrium, when one restaurant closes, another door opens, and Ken Gordon's takeover of the former Pix location on North Williams is nearly complete.

Kenny & Zuke's Deli Bar is set to open on Wednesday, September 12th with morning bagel and coffee service starting at 7 am, full weekend brunch offerings, late-night snacks, and cocktails (from Ox's Jamal Hassan and K&Z's bartender Robin Barnett) in addition to the hot dishes made popular across the river.

A sneak peek at the new weekend brunch menu (offered Saturday and Sunday from 8 am to 3 pm) reveals morning specials like brunchified K&Z Poutine (tater tots topped with pastrami gravy, cheese curds, and scrambled eggs), baked ratatouille and eggs with pecorino and ham, quiches, challah French toast filled with strawberries and cream cheese, and a “Jew”Cuterie Board with chopped liver, pastrami rillettes, Kosher salami, mini bagel dogs, pickles, and rye bread. The full day-time menu (including K&Z's popular bagels) will also be available on the weekends.

On the liquid side of things, the bar will boast three rotating taps, bottles of beer, wine, and soda, as well as a new drink menu featuring specialty cocktails from Hassan and Barnett. Look out for the Manischewietz Daiquiri (yes, really--we're talking dark rum, Loganberry Manischeweitz, and lime), the Bitter End (bourbon, sweet vermouth, Campari, lemon, and egg white), the NY Flip (cognac, port, chocolate, and a whole egg), the Grilled Peach (Del Maguay Vida Mezcal, Combier Peche, and lime), and a Bloody Mary garnished with housemade pickles and pastrami jerky.

Happy hour will be available daily from 3 to 5:30 pm, offering $1.50 off all food and drink items. Bookmark Eat Beat to check out photos and first bites from the new space after opening day.
