French fries: golden, crisp, glistening with salt crystals and loftier than goose down. We freaking love em'. In honor of the seemingly arbitrary food holiday (July 13 is National French Fry Day) , we tapped the Portland Monthly masthead for some insight into the city’s best deep-fried potatoes.

Benjamin Tepler, Associate Food Editor: Laurelhurst Market’s Dijon Crème Fraiche-dipped fries

Marty Patail, Associate Editor: Boise Fry Co., with “18 bazillion options”

Fiona McCann, Arts Editor: Little Big Burger’s truffle fries, Lardo’s herb and parmesan fries

Eden Dawn, Style Editor: P’s and Q’s Market, The Alibi, “For when you’re drunk”

Margaret Seiler, Copy Editor: Russell St. Barbecue’s Cajun sauce-dipped fries

Allison Jones, Digital Editor: Imperial, because “they're 100% gluten-free, crisped up in their own deep fryer.”

Karen Brooks, Restaurant Critic: Angel Face, “Nice and slim and salty, beautifully presented in that silver cone.”
