Breakside Brewery Hosts a Luau, Riesling Invades the City, and More Portland Food Events

Chef in My Garden: Summer 2016
What: Chef in My Garden, the Growing Gardens fundraiser, returns for its 14th year, pairing the city’s most inspiring private gardens with its top cooking talent. Tickets are still available for dinner with Clyde Common’s Carlo Lamagna, a Philippine-born chef with European cooking experience. The “dining room” on the edge of Forest Park, offers views of Mt. St. Helens and an impressive display, filled with summer-blooming perennials.

Meet Italian Cookbook Royalty at Powell’s
What: “Organic isn’t necessarily better,” and “boxed pasta can be better than fresh” are some of life lessons to be learned from the late godmother of Italian cuisine, Marcella Hazan. Ingredienti: Marcella's Guide to the Market, is a new cookbook and shopping companion from her husband and collaborator, Victor Hazan. Nostrana owner and local Italian cuisine bigwig Cathy Whims will join Hazan in discussion.

What: This is the multi-course dinner of the month. A seriously talented lineup includes James Beard winner Naomi Pomeroy and her Beast staff, Han Oak’s Korean-cooking Peter Cho, Maritime’s Andrew Mace and Girls Club’s Mika Paredes. Six different stations will be set up for roaming, with seating in the Han Oak courtyard and cocktails from Expatriate’s Kyle Webster.

Take a Hundred Sips at the Riesling Invasion
What: The Jacobsen Salt headquarters will soon be overrun with 100 Rieslings from 40 Oregon wineries, with pours from Argyle to Yamhill Valley. Scandinavian food carts Viking Soul Food and the Wild Hunt will pair up with Chef Jesse Skiles of Fausse Piste to keep you level-headed as you make your way through the tasting.

Breakside Brewery Releases New Ale via Summer Luau
What: Breakside Brewery gives beer lovers (and their children) a taste of tropical Hawaii at its Milwaukie tasting room. Expect a Hawaiian-themed menu complete with Kalua pork, a kiddie soaking pool, and misters, not to mention a keg of Wanderlust IPA infused with fresh-cut mangos and a fresh batch of Passionfruit Sour Ale.
