It’s OK if you don’t know Diana Henry, one of Europe’s most celebrated food writers. She’s not TV celeb like Nigella Lawson (though she was a producer for BBC), but she has written 11 (11!) cookbooks, several of which won major awards, including a James Beard in 2016. Fans include Lawson herself (“I couldn’t love anyone who didn’t love this book”), mega chef Yotam Ottolenghi (“I would eat anything Diana Henry cooks”) and Guardian food critic Marina O’Loughlin (“I read her books like novels … I don’t feel that way about any other food writer”).
Impressed? She’s coming to Powell’s City of Books on Wednesday, June 13, at 7:30 p.m. to talk with our very own food critic, Karen Brooks. They’ll talk about Henry’s new cookbook, How to Eat a Peach, a collection of menus and recipes bound by memories and personal essays from a life of international eating, including those sliced peaches dunked in chilled moscato—an Italian summer pastime that gave the book its name. Together they’ll uncover the secrets of a great cookbook (Henry has 4,000 of them!), and, critically, discuss what Henry, a confessed Netflix addict, is watching. Stay tuned afterwards for a Q&A session and book signing.
