Lobster Roll Night at Aviary

East Coast transplants will do just about anything for a lobster roll—and after that first bite, Oregonians forget all about the Dungeness. Aviary chef Sarah Pliner must know this, because she just amped her monthly lobster roll special into a weekly deal: $20 (with a side of jojos), every Wednesday at 5 p.m., while the crustaceans last. If you’re truly fanatical, and you happen to show up on Halloween in a full-sized lobster costume, you’ll earn yourself a free roll. Worth it.
Pozole Nights at Tournant

Northeast Portland event space Tournant just brought back its Thursday-night pozole party, which runs through the end of the year. The main event—that rich, cure-all of a Mexican winter stew—comes in pork rojo, chicken verde, or verduras (vegan) for $12. Pozole-themed bonuses include fresh ceviche, chocolate flan with mezcal caramel, beer, margaritas, and palomas. Bring it on, winter.

Chinese-Indonesian pop-up Gado Gado will run the kitchen at Expatriate for Halloween, with drinks from the boozy-fun geniuses at cocktail operation Shipwreck. Look for more of Gado Gado’s cooking in November, when it hosts dinners at Langbaan (Mondays in November) and Sammich (November 8 and 15), complete with its namesake gado gado (and peanutty Indonesian salad), laksa (a Southeast Asian noodle soup), and bakmi, a meaty noodle dish.
Fall for Spain at Rally Pizza

You might think of Vancouver’s Rally Pizza as a ‘za and custard operation, but they also hold a quarterly dinner series. In November, they’re celebrating the classic autumnal dishes of Spain in five courses, with an entirely vegan menu to boot. Expect the likes of Spanish tortillas with winter squash, romesco, and aioli, and seafood stews with chickpeas and saffron.

In November, Morgan St Theater focuses on Jewish history and culture with the Jewish Project: discussions of Judaism, with occasional klezmer music and amazing themed flavors like “The Sabbath”: brown butter ice cream with waffled challah French toast, maple syrup, and flaky sea salt.
