Pacifica, Portland's homegrown natural beauty, candle, and skincare line, has come a long way since it was created in a kitchen in the 90s. Now, founders Billy Taylor and Brook Harvey-Taylor are celebrating their success by opening a brick-and-mortar storefront at the NW Industrial Street warehouse where Pacifica products have been produced for over ten years. 

“We’ve watched the whole neighborhood change,” says founder and product developer Brook Harvey-Taylor. “Industrial Café, Meriwether’s, and all these cool little things started popping up in that area. We also have Portland Brewing, a little chocolate store is next door, Powell Book's warehouse moved in down here, somebody’s remodeling a warehouse…it’s much more retail friendly.” 

Though the couple could have opened in a trendier, more residential part of town, the new permanent shop's location was inspired by the booming success of Pacifica's annual warehouse sales. “People love coming to the industrial area and actually being where the products are made. It made us think 'well, maybe we’ll keep it close to home.’ The smell of the candles and lotions and perfumes consumes the whole block, so it’s a real sensory experience,” says Brook's younger sister, Kimberli Harvey, who has overseen Pacifica's social media, press, and pop-up shops since 2008, and will manage the new retail shop when it opens this fall.

Art lover Kimberli hints that the design of Portland's Pacifica shop will feature surfboards for the family's shared love of the waves, travel-inspired textiles, Japanese mirrors, and more elements that “bring modern and eclectic together. I want them to hold hands in a way that is a new visual experience for someone who walks into the store.”

The family-first Pacifica team opens their storefront on October 22 and—while the brand is stocked in Ulta, Target, Whole Foods, and a slew of local and international boutiques—the Portland HQ at3135 NW Industrial St will be the only place where all of Pacifica’s products will be available under one roof, from fragrances and makeup to lotions, cosmetics, and candles.
