What are you most proud of?
Spearheading historic legislation, House Bill 2432, which was signed into law by Governor Kate Brown in 2018, ensuring the practice of art therapy is protected in Oregon.
What should the community know about Marylhurst’s art therapy program?
Our nationally recognized and top-ranked art therapy counseling program offers rigorous training that prepares students to become qualified mental health practitioners and ethical leaders who advocate for social justice and provide clinically focused care to individuals, groups and families.
Built on a foundation of experiential learning, our Portland-based program allows students to inspire change within vulnerable communities by integrating creative processes within therapeutic and clinical settings. We are expanding to welcome new clinical sites where students develop skills and give back to the community.
How is the creative arts therapy community responding to growing complexities of counseling in today’s society?
We convened in April at the Creative Arts Therapy Conference, Cultivating Community, to offer support and guide one another through the racial, political, economic and socially divided structures present in our work. Marylhurst hosted the conference in partnership with Returning Veterans and the Portland Creative Arts Therapy Association.
