What drew you to your career?
Since early childhood, I knew that I wanted to be a surgeon. I was drawn to the wonder of being able to help people with my own hands. As I gained more knowledge about surgical subspecialties, I chose Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery for its combination of artistry, meticulous precision, and complex problem solving based on a deep understanding of human anatomy and biology. It is also a field in which communication, compassion, and a real ability to understand and connect with my patients encourages the development of deep and long lasting relationships. I found this a perfect fit for my strengths and personality.
What are you most proud of?
I believe that one cannot be a great surgeon without developing deep and personal relationships with patients. It is in listening and in understanding each patient’s unique needs and perspectives that I am able to achieve for my patients the personalized results that they want. Great surgical skills are only truly realized when tailoring your approach to each individual patient’s wants and needs. I feel honored to be entrusted with the incredible work of transforming bodies, and that my patients trust me with the needs and concerns that are so profound and personal in their lives.
Who inspires you?
I have so many patients who inspire me! I deeply admire the strength of my patients who walk the journey through breast cancer, illness, and injury, and are able to maintain a positive perspective and optimism. I believe that hope is the first step in healing, and I am privileged to be a part of the transformation and healing journey of each of my patients.
