It’s been a long time coming. Eat Beat first reported Tastebud’s relocation from the short-lived SE Milwaukie kitchen back in November 2013, when chef-owner Mark Doxtader, the gentle giant of the Portland farmers market, teased us with plans for a wood-fired bagel-pizza-roast chicken trifecta in Multnomah Village.

In March 2015, Doxtader made moves to open the kitchen with celebrated Portland chef, Jason Barwikowski (the Woodsman Tavern) at the helm. After seven months of construction delay and kitchen shuffles, Tastebud is finally opening, but with former DOC and Firehouse chef Jobie Bailey—a vegetable-loving farmer’s market star in his own right—running the show instead of Barwikowski.
The 45-seat, 1,500 square-foot space will have drop ceilings made from reclaimed redwood, yellow Douglas fir tables, and Edison-style lights. Expect a fully stocked bar, retail counter, and, at the heart of it all, a 72-inch Mugnaini wood oven. Stay tuned for menu details and opening photos.
