The James Beard Foundation announced its 2018 finalists today: of 18 Oregon semifinalist nominations, only four made the cut. They are Katy Millard (Coquine), Bonnie Morales (Kachka), and Justin Woodward (Castagna) for Best Chef NW, and Clyde Common for Outstanding Bar Program.

But that doesn’t include the James Beard Foundation Book Awards—both The Book of Greens, by Jenn Louis (Ray) with Kathleen Squires, and Six Seasons: A New Way with Vegetables, by Joshua McFadden (Ava Gene's, Tusk) with Martha Holmberg, are finalists under the Vegetable-Focused Cooking category. (The latter was recently subject to a bit of controversy.)

Celeb chef Chris Cosentino (Jackrabbit) is also a contender in the Single Subject category for his Offal Good, though we’re not totally sure if that counts as a Portland win. (We think it's a great primer on offal, regardless.)

Restaurant winners will be announced on May 7 at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, with book winners coming a little earlier, on April 27, at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers in New York City.
